Beneath the Rim

Weathered by time, Glimpse through the pine

Scale far beyond what is real

A sense of the grandeur is found

Carved deep in the ground

So strong you can feel

Gliding through alone, A sea of red stone

Distance you can’t comprehend

River flowing so far below

Through time we don’t know

Along every bend

Layers that unfold, Bathed in deep gold

Surrounded in silence, blown by the wind

Under sun’s glare, Floating on air

Soul of the canyon,
Find it beneath the rim

A fading darkness, Deep in the abyss

Cliff edges sharpen and glow

Sight of a blue thread unwinds

So clearly defined

Its wisdom still flows

Vermillion stairs, Crumbles and wears

Each moment captured in stone

Rock islands greeting the light

Soaring up to great height

A sense one is home

Layers that unfold, Bathed in deep gold

Surrounded in silence, blown by the wind

Distance so clear, Floating on air

Heart of the canyon,
Find it beneath the rim

The Valley's Alive

Endless expanse, Fading into the light

Holds me in a trance, Her magic just out of sight

Hills of fading red, The quiet hovering low

The Sun laying in it’s bed, Watching shadows slowly grow

Mountains far away

Beckoning me, wishing to arrive

So clear as day

The valley’s alive

Watching blue and gray

Slowly turn to shades of gold and white

Hear the winds that say

The valley’s alive

Swelling sands of time, Swallows me in waves

Giving me a sign, That it’s solitude that saves

Mountains far away

Beckoning me, wishing to arrive

So clear as day

The valley’s alive

Watching blue and gray

Slowly turn to shades of gold and white

Hear the winds that say

The valley’s alive

From the floating peaks, To the basin below

That feeling that one seeks,
When you see it, you know

Mountains far away

Beckoning me, wishing to arrive

So clear as day

The valley’s alive

Watching blue and gray

Slowly turn to shades of gold and white

Hear the winds that say

The valley’s alive

Badlands

Wind blows cold down the high plains

Met by the jagged crown of stone surrounding me

Steady echoes of the sudden rains

Washed from sheer cliffs above

To ground and tree

Thunder rumbling, a roar on the grasslands

Stone defiant, and time stands

Silhouettes calling, castles and spires

Lose yourself in the badlands

Thunder rumbling, a roar on the grasslands

Stone defiant, and time stands

Silhouettes calling, castles and spires

Lose yourself in the badlands

Waves of silence wash from above

Glistening horizon fades into infinity

Stone hearts melting in a burning love

Casting figures that dance for eternity

Thunder rumbling, a roar on the grasslands

Stone defiant, and time stands

Silhouettes calling, castles and spires

Lose yourself in the badlands

Land of Olympus

Mist floats off the mountain

Gathering in deep valleys unseen

Wind swirling all around her

Breathing life in moss of green

Fortress in stone

Land overgrown

Secrets still to glean

Land of Olympus, blanket of pure white

Head above the clouds and reaching into the night

Fog rolling in, and you’re lost to everyone

Though it’s dark way down below, I know, you still see the sun

Steel ocean's pounding rhythm

Dancing all around her cliffs up high

Tide rushing in to greet them

Forbidden to all but those who fly

Grain of sand

Rain on the land

Reflecting off the sky

Land of Olympus, blanket of pure white

Head above the clouds and reaching into the night

Fog rolling in, and you’re lost to everyone

Though it’s dark way down below, I know, you still see the sun

Silence Over The Highlands

Light falls upon the endless land

Rise and fall, gold and cream,

Timeless features in the cliffs of sand

And Canyon walls, like a dream

Pines whisper on the plateau face,

Green and gold against the sky

River moves with a delicate pace,

Revealing secrets in the dry

Feel the warm winds through the canyons

Hear the silence over the highlands

As I walk, every rock speaks of timeless change

From the warm valley floor, to the barren heights of the Henry range

Rush of water through the varnished walls

Lined with cottonwoods of gold

Sheer cliffs echo with the ravens calls,

Topped with Bristlecones of old

Crystal clear through the thin air

Hoodoos of gold, Nature’s art

Close your eyes, and nothing you can hear

Except the beating of your heart

Feel the warm winds through the canyons

Hear the silence over the highlands

Stand alone, where the sand stone greets your feet

Amber shades swirl around, just like you found a frozen desert treat

Allegheny Highs

Gem in the dirt, beyond all reason

Against all odds, each and every season

Weathered old age, rooftop over east

Come and you’ll feel that wondrous sense of peace

Hidden deep inside my soul

Comforting elegance

Long sweeping curves that fill my eyes

Radiant layers of

Every shade of blue

Wandering the Allegheny Highs

Enduring voice, refuge in the clouds

Cut out the noise, when it gets too loud,

Wisdom of rock, a silent harmony

Feeling unlocked, heaven sheltering me

Safely inside my soul

That smell of fresh old pine

Beneath the stars of summer nights

Slow up the backroads through the

Veil of mist so fine

Heading back to the Allegheny Highs

Hidden deep inside my soul

Comforting elegance

Long sweeping curves that fill my eyes

Radiant layers of

Every shade of blue

Take me back to the Allegheny Highs
